All the common breeds of retrievers are well represented in the households of SNRC members. And like most dog owners, our members have opinions and prejudices they are all too willing to share. Their opinions are free and often worth the price you pay. You are welcome to join us at our events and let us share any suggestions we might have with you. Perhaps the single best piece of advice anyone can give you is... do NOT go view a litter without first doing your homework. There is nothing more irresistible than a retriever puppy. In bringing a dog into your home, you've made a lifetime commitment to it. Get the right dog from the get-go, for both his sake and yours.
If you want a Labrador Retriever with good to great field performance potential, resist the urge to get an exotic coat color.

Know the genetic "land mines" inherent in the breed you want, then find a breeder who avoids them.
